WELL saved my life

In November 2024 the WELL Team carried out a WELL Health Roadshow for the staff of LPS in Waterside. At the session we met a gentleman who presented as healthy young man, however under further inspection WELL Nurse Joyce discovered he had extremely high blood pressure.

We were delighted to hear from Conair recently who was keen to share his story as someone with an underlying condition.

Hi, my name is Conair Morrison and in November I attended one of the WELL Programmes in Waterside House.

I just wanted an overall look at my health and if I needed to make any changes. Everything was 100% except my blood pressure checks, where it was found that I had a BP of over 240/130.

The nurse advised I go straight to A&E or she was going to ring me an ambulance – I was admitted that evening and it continued to rise in hospital.

The months following I attended weekly clinics, spend numerous nights in A&E with and was admitted on a number of occasions, due to what has now been diagnosed as resistant hypertension.

I am now on 5 medications every morning, and it is still around the 150/100 mark even on the medications, but still under review from doctors.

The scary thing is I was a very active healthy person, going to the gym 4 or 5 times a week and had a healthy diet. To anyone that thinks to themselves; I am active and healthy, I don’t need a check-up, you never know what could be underlying.

My consultant informed me if I hadn’t of caught this when I did, I would have had a massive stroke or heart attack soon, and to pass on my thanks to this programme for saving my life.

I would just like to highlight my immense gratitude for the service the WELL Programme provides and would urge everyone to take the short break from your day to attend and get checked out.
