Awareness Month
1st-30th September 2021 World Alzheimer’s Month- This month long event is held by the Alzheimer’s Society and contains World Alzheimer’s day on the 21st September. This year the focus is on highlighting the importance of talking about Dementia. The aim of the event is to raise awareness of how it impacts people’s daily lives. This awareness month is not only beneficial to people suffering from Alzheimer’s but also the families supporting that person.
Alzheimer’s and Dementia describes different brain disorders that trigger a loss of brain function. This condition usually get progressively more severe. Statistics show that around 850,000 people in the UK suffer from Dementia with a projected rise of cases to 1.6 million people by 2040. 209,600 will develop dementia this year which equates to 1 person every 3 minutes. This shows the importance of raising awareness of Alzheimer’s and Dementia.
