National Cholesterol Month: 1st - 31st October
National Cholesterol Month takes place for the whole month of October to make people more aware of cholesterol and how it can be best managed. The campaign is run by Heart UK, a charity with the vision of preventing early disease and deaths from cholesterol and other blood fat (lipid) conditions.
Over half of UK adults have raised cholesterol which can lead to heart disease. Your body needs some cholesterol in the body to function properly, but having too much can clog up your arteries and lead to health problems in the future.
By getting a simple cholesterol test and making positive lifestyle changes, most people can keep their cholesterol levels healthy. So, this National Cholesterol Month 'Let's Talk About Cholesterol'.
As part of the campaign this year, HEART UK are running The Great Cholesterol Challenge to help raise vital funds for the charity. Being active is a major part of looking after your cholesterol levels, therefore the challenge is to get sponsored to walk, cycle, run or swim 100 miles in October.
For this year’s campaign, HEART UK are aiming to get one million people involved in the awareness campaign using the power of social media.
